The domed Reading Room at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia was built in 1913 and its architecture was inspired by the British Museum in London and the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The octagonal space includes a first floor reading level and four gallery levels and was built to house over a million books and up to 600 occupants.
